The posters, activities and lessons were created to encourage the practice of mindfulness. They help support the BC Curriculum through development of the core competencies, which can be closely tied to the SEL core competencies. The following SEL core competency connections can be made:
Self-Management |
These activities and lessons will encourage participants to think about their actions and choices, and how they impact their overall well-being. Participants will learn how to use mindfulness strategies for their well-being, to aid in goal setting, regulating emotions and to help in challenging situations.

Self-Awareness |
These activities and lessons will provide students with an opportunity to reflect on their emotions, strengths, and abilities. Participants will be able to continue to build upon their self-confidence and self-efficacy through continued positive engagement in the activities.

Social Awareness |
These activities and lessons will encourage participants to think about how their actions and choices impact others and their well-being. Participants will develop empathy, appreciation, and awareness of their responsibility to positively engage with their community to help others.

Relationship Skills |
These activities and lessons will encourage participants to communicate their thoughts and feelings, engage with others, and encourage positive relationships. Participants will develop skills to help them navigate conflict resolution situations, as well as the tools needed to effectively work with others.

Responsible Decision Making |
These activities and lessons will encourage participants to reflect on their actions and choices, and the impact it has on their well-being or the well-being of others. Participants will further develop their critical thinking skills, which will enable them to work through difficult situations.
